Fuse: New Works by Deborah Pinter is inspired by the poem, “The Force That Through the Green Fuse Drives the Flower” by Dylan Thomas. “After a few readings of this poem, my mind filled with countless connections to my own work, both past and present. Thomas’s reference to the cycle of life and death and his examination of nature, mortality, love, and just what it means to be alive, rendered vivid and rich relatable images,” Pinter said. Each image in the exhibition is a reaction to the previous one by using different techniques and processes and fusing them together.
Deborah Pinter has been exhibiting her work since graduating in 1991 from New York University/International Center of Photography’s joint graduate program with a masters of art in photography. She earned her bachelor of fine arts degree in photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1988.
Pinter’s work is included in private and public collections including the Cleveland Museum of Art, Zygote Press archives, Progressive art collection, Cleveland State University art collection, and the Laura Ruth and Fred Bidwell collection.
Recent exhibition venues have included solo exhibitions at BAYarts, the Maria Neil Art Project, the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, and the John F. Seiberling Gallery. Group shows have included Alte Feuerwache Loschwitz, Dresden, Germany; the Art Gallery at Cleveland State University; and the University of Akron Emily Davis Gallery.
The artist self-published the book, Luminous Florals, in 2012. It was included in the DIY: Photographers and Books Exhibition curated by Barbara Tannenbaum at the Cleveland Museum of Art and is in the Artists’ Book Collection at the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Pinter has served as a trustee on non-profit boards including SPACES Gallery and the Cleveland Museum of Art’s Friends of Photography affiliation group, on which she served as vice president for three years.
Currently, she teaches photography at the Cleveland Institute of Art and Baldwin Wallace University and has taught art administration to graduate students at the University of Akron.
